"Busy, Good-Quality, Cute, and Fun"

July 2007 - The Wild Oat is located in Ottawa's Glebe district - an attractive residential district home to several sweet coffee shops, bakeries, and health food stores. The Oat fits under several food categories: cafe, bakery, and vegetarian eatery. Divided into two sections, with a shared space at the front for customers to cross over, The Wild Oat provides homemade baked goods specializing in wholegrain and healthy ingredients on one side of its establishment, and a vegetarian restaurant on the other - although both sides provide specialty coffees to go, which I'm told by my Ottawa friend are the best in town. I ordered an Americano at The Wild Oat to see what the fuss was about and discovered it was, indeed, a great cup of coffee - although, I have to admit that I had better at the Ottawa chain "Bridgehead's," which does, however, lack The Wild Oats unique appeal. I also ordered a berry fruit bar- similar to a date bar except all the more decadent with rich cooked barries sandwiched between heavy layers of crumble and honey. Everything from The Wild Oats bakery looks delicious and you get the feeling the young women who work there are happy to because of the nice ambience and good-quality products they're serving. My friend ordered one of their salads from the vegetarian eatery section - a Japanese carrot salad - that came with a mix of North American and Japanese influence (Japanese flavoured dressing and North American lettuce and sunflower seeds). It was nice, bu definitely not a filling lunch. She would have had to order something else if she were actually hungry for a meal.
