"Ottawa's Montreal Smoked Meat"
6.17
by David (from o)
November 2007 - It feels so comfortable when they know what you want before you even order: Jumbo Combo, please. Dunn’s is not in Montreal but it's the best place in Ottawa to get a smoked meat sandwich. It was also nice to have this restaurant empty.

The combo includes more meat than one should be able to eat. If only they included more than just two small slices of rye bread. The pickle slice is good but it is only a slice of one large yummy pickle. I’m not a big fan of cole slaw. I like it sweet. Dunn’s slaw is more vinegar and garlic. The fries are unique, hot and yummy but you only get 12 or 15 of them. Add to the food one bottomless soft drink.

On other occasions, I’ve sampled the liver steak combo and the karnatzel (which are very small versions of the Romanian karnatzel). As far as I've found, everything's good at Dunn’s.

My waitress knew I liked the delicious strawberry cheese cake but alas there was no room this day.

The franchise I visited is located at 203 Queen Street and I believe it's known as Dunn’s Deli Express. Concerns: one can sit through too many Frank Sinatra songs and too many fruit flies.

"Good Eats, but try the Smoked Meat"
7.33
by Jeannine (from Calgary)
August 2007 - This restaurant was recommended to us by our concierge at our restaurant for a good breakfast bit. When we got there we quickly figured out that they were famous for there smoked meat sandwiches. The atmosphere was very old diner and the owner greeted everyone at the door. We arrived around 11pm and had a primo view of the meat cutter - slicing large cuts of smoked meat and piling them high onto some rye bread. My husband and I were both in the mood for breakfast however, so I had the french toast with blueberries and a fruit salad and my husband the pancakes with blueberries, bacon and a side fruit salad. The food was good, but when all was said and done it was a little expensive for what we got ($35). As it neared noon, the locals began to pile in and the sandwiches were flying off the trays faster than they could be cut. We left wishing that we had tried the smoked meat. I would definitely return to try some of what they are famous for.
