| "Hip but a little uncomfortable" |

by Jessica (from Ottawa) September 2007 - What a treat! Located at the central Ottawa intersection of Elgin and Gilmour, Aunt Olive's is a delightful crossbreed of retro 1950's used clothing, and old-fashioned beverages with modern yummy sandwiches. In the warmer months, Aunt Olive's places uncomfortable metal chairs and equally akward children's school tables outside for passers by to be lured in. And, it's worth it! The charm of drinking an iced tea without ten tablespoons of sugar, that actually tastes homemade and from a grandma's kitchen - is strangely exotic and post-modern in the midst of Ottawa's prime urban socializing area. My friend and I both had Aunt Olive's pressed sandwich - a sandwich of provalone, priscutto and brie - which was pretty good. While we sat in our akward chairs, another friend stopped by and managed to find a super-cute $5 retro bathing suit for me, which my other friend generously paid for! What fun for me!
