October 2007 - Feeling like curry tonight, we visited Host India. We have been here before at buffet time but we were hoping that the quality of the menu selections would be better. They were.
Our meal centred on two dishes: Chicken Vindaloo and Sabzi Jalfrezi. The vindaloo came nice and spicy, as forewarned by the menu. The curry had large pieces of chicken breast but the potatoes (as described in the menu) were missing.
This was my first jalfrezi since eating in South Asia and I was overwhelmed by the variety of vegetables. The dish seemed to be built on a foundation of Asian vegetables such as baby corn, water chestnut, carrots, beans and mushrooms. The onions, green peppers and stewed tomatoes were added to this mixture but were cut too large for me to eat with my roti. Add to this, some tasty ginger strings and there was so much vegetable matter that the curry was soaked up by all the food.
We also tried some Keema Nan (bread stuffed with minced meat) which we were going to take home to our absent, less adventurous dining partner. However, the specialty nan contained so many onions that we decided to enjoy the roti ourselves.
