October 2007 - For decades, Du Barry Chinese Buffet has been located in the shopping plaza on Montreal Road at the Rideau River in Vanier. In addition to typical Chinese buffet fare, patrons will find a sushi counter, a Mongolian counter and many Western items.
Because the quality of the food is not high, one might wonder how to get value from a weekend-evening buffet meal that costs $18.18 each (after taxes). Because I so like mainstream sushi items, it’s no problem for me.
Du Barry has other issues of quality. During this recent visit, I watched the ten-year old boy place many sushi items on his plate, inspect and then return them to the counter with his fingers. My dining partner rejected the salad dressing because of the hair in the spoon. At the dessert counter, I watched the twerps digging in the ice-cream bins up to their cream-covered elbows.
Nevertheless, thousands of us keep coming back for more. Besides, the washrooms are much cleaner than they used to be.
