by Jessica (from Ottawa) October 2007 - Café L'Entree is the National Art Gallery’s café, located before the gallery’s actual cafeteria which we were originally intending to find, located further along the gallery’s majestic walkways. While we didn’t realize the cafeteria was farther inside the gallery, the meal and ambience we enjoyed at the café was memorable nonetheless. Located inside the spectacular glass arboretum of the gallery, we sat in the middle of a downpour we had just escaped from, shivering in the café’s cold metallic chairs hoping for something warm to eat. Early October provides a gorgeous riverside view of the Chateau Laurier and Parliament Hill accented by the rich autumn colours of an Ontario Fall. The closest item on the menu which fit our desire for warm and healthy was a perch fish dish. The perch came placed on a mound of polenta, dressed in a roasted red pepper sauce, with a side of freshly steamed vegetables. The portion size was refreshingly modest. The wine selection was decent: a glass of Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay later, we waited for our hot teas, finding the rain less cold and wet somehow.
