September 2007 - Pure Gelato is a gelato-specialty service, showcasing over 100 flavours of gelato in a fluorescently-lit space. Complete with skinny-legged, high-bar tables and matching stools, Pure Gelato looks jet set for the 21st century. Its frosted cylindrical wall lights and orange accent colouring, along with the electric pink uniforms of the Pure Gelato staff, finish off the aesthetic.
The gelato flavours are a perfect range of traditionally sacred to eccentrically delightful. I had a three flavour waffle bowl: authentic banana, hazelnut, and a yummy amaretto flavour. My friend selected the same three-flavour waffle bowl: her selections were an intensely tasty after-eight gelato, passionfruit, and, strangely enough, peanut butter. The beauty of selecting your own flavours is that it truly allows for the wacky and off-the-wall nature of people’s individual taste buds to come forward. All flavours delivered there are true-blue to their namesake – really better than expected. As we wandered outside with our gelatos on an unseasonably warm September evening, we found a nearby park bench and sat to watch the world go by. Really, what could be better?
