October 2007 - Stoneface Dolly's is a weekend brunch spot, right in the middle of Ottawa's Italian Preston street strip. With a minute or two line-up (where my friend sat on a Stoneface Dolly's broken waiting bench), we were quickly seated at a counter bar facing the street. Big, open windows are outfitting the front space from floor to ceiling - so really, a thrill to be seated there, although the tables in the back do look more comfortable. The service was prompt and professional, though the owner did come over and ask my friend if her parents were hippies - an unexpected though somehow inoffensive question he managed to pull off - insinuating she was obviously a hippy too, said with a cheeky grin.
My Americano was nothing to write home about, but the florentine eggs benedict my friend and I had were both delicious - mine on homemade brown bread, hers on the more conventional english muffin. There are more outlandishly filling brunch entrees to indulge in here - though we found our brunches plenty filling. Fresh squeezed juices and mimosas are also an option.
