October 2007 - Von's is classy. Located in Ottawa's upper end Glebe district, the staff look like they stepped out of a 1940's gangster-glamour scene. The male waiters are dressed in swanky suits, the beautiful hostess in a turquoise crinolin dress that reveals extensive tattooing down one side of her body.
When debating what I wanted to eat, wishing I could have the florentine eggs benedict with salad and homefries, rather than just homefries as listed on the menu, the waiter commented, "honey, you can have anything you want," which I ended up doing. The florentine eggs benedict was excellent. Von's is a little pricier than a greasy spoon diner, but the ambience and selection of food makes it worthwhile. My mother had a cream cheese and locks omelette which she thoroughly enjoyed.
If there are no tables available upon your arrival, the Von's hostess immediately suggests taking at the bar, where an expresso or breakfast beverage are offered as you wait.
