December 2007 - I got great value for my money at the Gooney’s Sandwich Works on Laurier near Kent in downtown Ottawa. There are Gooney’s outlets at other locations.
All the sandwiches are the same price and come on an oversized panini roll. Apparently, there is no other option for bread. However, there are a dozen different sandwiches. You choose the fixings.
Rather than a soft drink, I chose a milk shake. It was rather small but was freshly made.
In addition to eleven different chef designed salads, you can make your own with four different kinds of lettuce, 13 kinds of dressing and any four of 24 items on the salad. For a small premium, your salad items can include meats, cheeses, mushrooms or avocado.
Gooney’s muffins are customer favourites and are soon sold out. Don’t come too late in the day. The restaurant is open from 7 to 7 on weekdays. Gooney’s has a decent breakfast menu.
