"Eating at YOW"

by David (from Orléans)
December 2007 - The restaurant is located in the Ottawa (Macdonald-Cartier International) airport. Despite the fancy setting and the fancy menus (in both official languages), the restaurant is essentially a place for sandwich, salad and soup.

Let's rate yet another Montreal smoked meat sandwich. This one was on thinly sliced soft sourdough bread which is a nice change from the dry and crunchy rye bread. I also chose Dijon rather than regular mustard: oh memories of Dad's mustard plaster as the yellow sauce cleared my head.

The thick-cut potatoes were a nice substitute for french fries - and half a pickle.

The menu advertises no desserts but the restaurant offered me pie and cake. I had a New York cheesecake which was fine but the crust was too thin and too dry for my liking. The chocolate drizzle wasn't necessary.

This is a much better place to eat than the nearby Harvey's or Tim Hortons. However, the doors close at 9 pm or the time of the last flight. Actually, on this night the doors closed at 9 even though two flights left after 9:30. The doors closed at 9 and I was dining all alone.

"Airport Relaxation"
7.50
by Brandy (from Dartmouth)
December 2007 - The Rideau Bar & Grill located at the Ottawa International Airport is a casual, yet upscale establishment perfect for those long lay-overs or an early arrival. The Rideau Bar & Grill is on the arrivals level just past a conglomerate of fast food restaurants but just before security. The prices are quite steep for what is provided but that is to be expected dining in an airport. The service, however, was excellent. Not very busy, the waiter was able to attend to us as required but did not bother us. The bar and table and chairs are finished in a light oak colour that looks very chic and contemporary. While waiting for my plane to arrive I had a beer and a plate of Nachos. After tax but before tip the bill came to almost $21. The price was quite high considering their unremarkable taste and presentation. This is not to say they were bad, however. Overall, the atmosphere was very relaxing and that was what I was looking for. So if you want to wait in comfort and don’t mind paying a premium for okay food and very good service try the Rideau Bar & Grill in the Ottawa International Airport.
