| "Tiny Spiritual Gem" |

by Jessica (from Ottawa) December 2007 - Perfection Satisfaction Promise is an inconspicuous restaurant located across from the University of Ottawa. A lovely stained glass entranceway located beside its sister gift shop notifies the customer of its presence. It has limited, tight seating space, so get there before the lunch hour rush! Owned and run by followers of Sri Chimnoi, an Indian spiritual leader who recently died, Perfection Satisfaction Promise is a "satvic" or "pure ingredients" restaurant. Satvic food is meant to be easily digested, lightly spiced, and vegetarian, adhering to the yogic philosophy that a pure diet allows for the pursuit of a pure mind.
Perfection Satisfaction Promise usually has a daily special, and when we went they had a Christmas feast composed of: lentil shepherd's pie with potatoes, coleslaw and vegetarian miso-mushroom gravy for 12$. I ordered a two dish combination of Indian vegetable chickpea curry and steamed vegetables on brown rice, while my friend had a mediterranean pizza, which she ordered without green peppers because she's allergic. The walls of Perfection Satisfaction are covered with paintings by Sri Chimnoi of birds he painted as a spiritual practice. Each table has a collection of spiritual expressions meant to inspire and uplift as you dine.
My meal was well-prepared and simple: a refreshing change from restaurant food often saturated with unwanted "extras." My friend's pizza unfortunately did come with green peppers, despite her request for a pizza without them. The server was quite gracious about refunding her money and seemed genuinely concerned there had been a mistake made. The servers at Perfection Satisfaction see their work as selfless service, or, a spiritual practice to purify their spirit and keep them close to the Divine, so the attitude is fairly different than the sometimes embittered wait staff at other restaurants. The servers even wear saris to mark their service as an offering.
