| "Nice lady, but not the best chinese food" |

December 2007 - So, as my review suggests, this restaurant has a homey, family atmosphere, as do many of the Asian, specifically Chinese restaurants along Somerset street in Ottawa. I came here on return from family travels over Christmas, and had nothing left in the fridge. It was between Christmas and New Year's, so not much was open - though May's was. It was nearby, and it was a cold enough night that that mattered. Upon entering May's I was the only one in the restaurant, though two kind women, possibly a mother and a daughter, came out to serve me. I ordered the tofu with mixed vegetables, assuming this was a somewhat safe choice when not being familiar with the items on the menu. Ten minutes later (the service was very prompt), my meal was served. Unfortunately, the mixed vegetables and tofu were not anything like what I had expected. Covered in thick, msg-laden brown sauce, I picked through the mound of chinese mushrooms to remove the only green accents I could find in an otherwise exclusively mushroom dish. This wasn't the "mixed vegetable" I was expecting. The tofu was sliced thinly and fried well, although deep fried at that. All-in-all, this may have been an unfortunate exception to otherwise reasonable dished that May's offers, however I was too tired to complain and picked through my meal with resignation. Paying twelve dollars plus tip wasn't my idea of a "good deal."
