December 2007 - So Good Restaurant is one of the most consistently packed Asian food restaurants on the Ottawa "Chinatown" strip. Inexpensively priced, it also attracts a largely non-Asian clientele - though this seems to be the case for quite a few of the Chinatown restaurants, balancing out the idea I've heard that if the clientele is culturally native to the food being offered - it's a testament to the restaurant's food quality. My friend ordered a mixed vegetables with tofu and pineapple dish, while I had a simple order of chinese greens and steamed white rice (I would have preferred brown but most asian restaurants - except for more fusion-based cuisine, only offer white rice). We both shared a fried egg roll appetizer. While I must say eating "fast-food" Chinese is probably not the healthiest way to live on a day-to-day basis (it's full of sugar and salt, if not msg), it certainly satisfies the tastebuds, and, if not overdone, can be modestly indulgent rather than seriously harmful to the body. My chinese greens, for example, were somewhat healthy, though marinated in soy sauce and oil. My friends vegetables and pineapple dish, however, was covered in that deliciously sweet red sauce which is such a staple at most "fast food" Chinese restaurants and I'm most certain that has to have some effects on the organs after a while! I have to admit, I used some of her sauce on my much more mildly flavored dish... So Good's service is fast and courteous - service is meant to get you in and out as quickly as you'd like so that your table is open for the next customers. Quite the lively place.
