| "A bit strange, but good food" |

by Jessica (from Ottawa) December 2007 - The Vietnamese Kitchen looks like a restaurant you might find in a more rural part of the country - something rustic and unpolished about the place. A little removed from the Asian cluster along Somerset's "Chinatown," The Vietnamese kitchen was fairly empty when my friend and I arrived for dinner. Perhaps they do alot of take-out? The colour scheme is an interesting combination of deep-pink, which passed for red in dim lighting, along with green - so creating a "Christmas-like" atmosphere somewhat unattractive even during the Christmas season, not to mention throughout the rest of the year. There are Buddhist icons discretely displayed throughout the restaurant, as we were also served discretely, by a young waitress who would appear in perfectly timed intervals, in between disappearing from view. We shared a green tea - a rather generic, cheap variety, followed by our egg roll starters. The Pad Thai dish we both ordered was good, though there was nothing special to remember it by. This place was fine in that it showed up on our walk at the right time. Otherwise, I wouldn't seek it out again - although I'm sure those that live nearby appreciate in the midst of Ottawa's less that temperate winter months.
