January 2008 - Jak's Kitchen used to be StoneFaced Dolly's until it changed ownership a year or two ago. Located on Ottawa's somewhat destitute Bronson Street, Jak's is a quiet treat to come upon for Ottawa's Centretown locals, such as myself. Entering the diner, the minimalism and large window space allows the diner to feel more spacious than it's small square footage would otherwise allow. My friend and I were pleased with the menu selection, and each ordered egg based breakfasts that delivered. The waitress was professional and courteous with us - answering our questions and making us feel welcome. As we sat, slowly people from the community trickled in. Unlike other breakfast places on a Saturday morning in popular parts of Ottawa, Jak's doesn't overflow with business or line waits, though it is just as good - actually better for its boutique-like atmosphere. My Americano was decent, not amazing, though I am picky. My red pepper sauce over my eggs florentine was a nice little twist to a classic - without totally changing a perfect staple. The cost was reasonable and we'll definitely be back. So cool to find quality places like this in areas that are yet to be commercialized by trend.
