January 2008 - The Mekong restaurant looks more expensive than it is. Don't let this fool you! Walk inside and sit at the table at the front that extends out from the rest of the restaurant over the sidewalk below. You'll feel like a VIP, or, at least, we did. My friend and I were seated at the one table that seems to be separated from the rest of the restaurant by a metal lattice ornamental structure placed behind the table on one side, and the window casing surrounding us on the other. Our server used incredibly friendly language, greeting us each time by the introduction: "hello my friends." The Mekong gives a large Tom-Yum soup that could be for two as an entree: it is huge! Eat this, and you won't be wanting anything else. Their spring rolls were fresh, which isn't always the case at other restaurants serving this staple, and our chicken vegetable cashew dish was very plain - a refreshing change from other asian restaurants who drown their food in sauces. It was what I was looking for anyways. Mekong provides prompt, good service with a smile and very decent food with decent prices. We told our server we had to be in and out in an hour and we were. The Mekong also has a decent selection of wine which we indulged in. Otherwise, they provide a corking fee for $15 if you want to bring your own.
