February 2008 - Jadeland restaurant is like a lot of the asian restaurants along Somerset: good food and unpretentious, some may say tacky, decor. Bright green and white are the colours of choice inside Jadeland's brightly lit interior, and large round tables accommodate bigger groups while smaller ones create more intimacy for couples. If you're looking for a filling, cheap dinner option, this is it! For $6.95, order the small portion of either the Hot and Sour, or Sezchuan soups. They are great! A size that would feed four as an appetizer (I think what the soups are intended for) the soup is filling and delicious. The Sezchuan soup is surprisingly sweet for its namesake, that usually just means spicy. There is enough chicken in the soup to make it very filling for several hours afterwards, once the sheer volume of liquid from the soup wears off. The waitresses checked in with us several times that we did, in fact, want two small servings of the soup each - they didn't get it was our one and only meal and that we wouldn't be ordering an entree after it. They seemed very (graciously) fixed on the idea that soup was an appetizer to be shared in moderation, rather than as a main dish. After a few attempts at politely questioning us, they accepted it must be what we wanted.
