February 2008 - Egg Spectation is an event in itself. Why would people line up for half an hour on a Saturday morning just to eat breakfast when there are thousands of other options available in the city, a dozen of which are only steps away? I guess because Egg Spectation knows what they're doing. I got my name on the waiting list and then left for fifteen minutes to do some errands. By the time I returned, I had only a few minutes of waiting before my name was called (it actually only ended up being 20 of the 30 minute wait I was told it would be) and I was led upstairs to a great table under the glass ceiling and side windows. Light showered down on me in the middle of a cold wintery day, while I glanced through the menu, tantalized by the smoothie options available. I ended up getting a fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, as did my friend, and ordered the eggs florentine with side salad and home-fried potatoes, despite the cornacopia of indulgent mouth-watering taste combinations on the menu. I just didn't feel like stuffing myself that morning, though I did manage to anyways with my more conventional selection. Egg Spectation has any kind of breakfast your heart may desire (except for, perhaps, something very plain - though even this I'm sure would be accomodated by their side options). This place is impressive just by the mass multi-floor size of it, where a buzz is felt by the community coming together in a lively naturally lit interior when its too cold to get that patio feeling outside. Worth the wait.
