| "Pleasantly surprised" |

by Risa (from Toronto) August 2007 - Yes, you can see the highway from the premium sites (not all, just on the north side), you can definitely hear the trains that consistently pass by day and night. However, the lake water is clean, the facilities are well maintained, staff are very friendly and go out of their way to accomodate you. The dog beach was our favourite although we don't have a dog. The human beach just seemed too windy all the time. The camp sites are "typical". Average privacy. Fire pit and grill are sufficient. Parry Sound is about 10 minutes away with stores for all your camping needs if you forgot anything or just really need a Tim Horton's fix :)

| "dogs had a blast" |
by Joanie (from BalmBeach Ont.) July 2007 - We spent two enjoyable weekends at the park. Our Dalmatian enjoyed swimming at the pet beach and we saw other people in the water with their dogs. The park is clean and well maintained. It is well monitored by the warden and staff. The facilities were all in working condition and we chatted with many many other pet owners who obviously had no problems with the rules concerning dogs in the park.A few ignorant dog owners neglected to stoop and scoop their pet's droppings. We have no problem with leashing our dogs as it is just a matter of common courtesy. You would not let them run loose anywhere else so why would you when you are camping. Not everyone in the world is a dog lover. The scenery is lovely and the part of the park where we were was well treed so as to give you some privacy. After being away from camping for over 20 years we were quite surprised at the cost plus we noted that there is no more free camping for seniors as was the case for our parents in the "good old days" (in the 70s) Our three dogs quite enjoyed the experience and considering the number of dogs in the park there was next to no barking.I would heartily recommend this park. The staff were friendly and efficient.

| "Not Dog Friendly, Poor Facilities" |

by L (from Toronto, Canada) August 2006 - My mother and I went to this park with our two dogs: a labrador and a Chesapeake bay. We got the poorest site because of availability, which was fine with us because we're used to camping in rough areas. Dogs were not allowed off the leash, not allowed to bark, and not allowed to go onto the human beach. When we went to the dog-friendly beach, it was this small strip of poor sand and rough terrain. My dogs were happy to go into the water, but there was a sign just ten feet from the shore saying dogs were not allowed off the leash beyond that point. So my dogs were only free on this small strip of filthy land and rough terrain. I was under the impression I could go on nature hikes with my dogs, ride my bikes with my dogs, and swim with my dogs. Then I check out the facilities for the humans -- most of the showers were broken, sinks were clogged, toilets were broken, and even soap dispensers were broken. Men and women shower in the same place. Our campsite also had this small little grill a foot from the ground and only 1.5 feet in length. It wasn't even and definitely wasn't safe. We also had an electrical site but the electrical plug was far away and always occupied. We left later that day and got a refund by employees who were very rude to us when we wanted to leave.
Bottom line: Not worth it for dogs OR humans!
