"Scammers-Something Blue Photgraphics"
by Lise (from Cambridge)
March 2007 - From the beggining:

My fiance (my wife now) was searching on the internet for photographers in our area and we came across Something Blue Photographics in London. My fiance communicated with Rebecca Young, the owner. We were a bit sceptical to try a new unestablished company for our special day. To help ease our minds, we decided to have Rebecca take our engagement pictures. We arranged, the time and place. She arrived on time, took good pictures and had them back to us within a reasonable amount of time (I believe a couple weeks). The pictures turned out well, so we were pretty confident that we made a good choice on saving some $$$ and get good photos.

Leading up to the wedding:

There were regular communications going back and forth about our wedding day plans and price. I send her a check for a deposit which she thankfully didnt cash (which I stopped payment later). We figured that she would contact us shortly before the wedding to confirm that data/time/schedule and receive the list of picture plans. She did not, I didnt want to have my fiance worry about it so I took matters into my own hands. I emailed numerous times, left several messages leading up to the night before the wedding. I left her my final voicemail and email mentioning that if she didnt contact me by a certain time on the wedding day, she shouldnt bother coming as I will have a backup photographer. She called in time and we confirmed the day.

She arrived with her assistant, she was a bit pushy and wanted things on her schedule. She wanted to have me and my men ready about 2 hours before the ceremony for pictures, it was only 35 degrees out (sarcasm), so I made her wait. She went down with see my fiance and her girls and made her go outside and get her dress dirty before the ceremony (I am sure my wife will elaborate on this post). Throughout the wedding, she took pictures as requested.

We paid her the remaining fees (in the form of a check). A couple weeks later, we hadnt heard from her so we decided to email and leave her a message, this got us know where. We pleaded through various emails and messages about getting out pictures, but to no avail. After a month of no response, I cancelled both checks I had written her. We had other people call her from different phone numbers asking about getting a photographer for their wedding, and they never received a response either. We still havent received any response from her and we got married July 7 /06. We just recently emailed her to have her remove our engagement pictures from her site or will be forced to contact a lawyer.
We have set up our own website for those who want to put their own story about this company or others. Good or bad feedback. Please email me: liseyandt@yahoo.ca

"Stay away... far away"
by Vicky (from Middle Cove Newfoundland)
January 2007 - We hired this photographer last spring to shoot our July 23rd wedding. We found her pleasant enough to deal with, loved her work, she asked all the right questions, and even went out of her way to meet with us when our first meeting got messed up do to a communication confusion.

The day of the wedding was good, liked the way she and her assistant handled themselves and treated our wedding party and guests, I would have liked her to shoot a bit more of the nicer details of our venue, but that was a little thing, and she was everything we wanted in a photographer.

Just one problem.
She hasn't had any contact with us since the wedding. Emails, voice mails to her main number and cell phone from both my mother and myself go unanswered, a registered letter sent to her was uncollected.

We paid her in full, $900, before the wedding for a full day shoot, and were happy to give a relatively new but talented photographer a go, and we were thrilled with the price, but now I have neither a refund (if something untoward happened to the photos) or my photographs.

I'm so heartbroken, we have some nice photos from friends and family, but non the professional quality memories we'd hired a photographer for, I don't so much care about the money, I just wanted my pictures.

"Stay Away"

November 2006 - Avoid this company at all costs!

We hired something blue photographics in january of 2006 for a wedding to occur in october. We paid the 250.00 deposit and was told that someone would be calling us in the beginning of september to discuss our wedding.... September came and no one called. So we called, we emailed (in total over 30 voicemails/calls, 5 or more emails) and no one returned anything. We finally resorted to visiting their homes. Often we knocked on the doors to have no one answer, yet the neighbours told us that they were home and had just seen them. Finally two weeks before our wedding we tracked them down by knocking on their door at 10pm to have a very rude converstation. We were told that they did not understand why we were upset, that they do not normally talk to the bride and groom in advance (yet they did not even know where the wedding was) and was overall extremley rude!

This company made the month before our wedding an extremely stressed time and I was crying daily as I did not have a photographer with less than two weeks before my wedding. I luckily managed to find a fantastic photographer (kim goor - who was amazing and delivered everything as promised)... If it was not for the new photographer my wedding would have been ruined.

This company is ripping people off. We never got our deposit back... I know of at least one other couple who had a similar experience with them.... Once they heard my story, they started calling and also got no response!!!

"Beware"
by Lisa (from Vancouver)
December 2005 - We used Something Blue Photographics for our wedding this past Dec 2005 in London, Ontario. We paid in full for the services on the day of our wedding and received the proofs a month or so later in the mail (we live in Vancouver).... however they failed to fulfill the second half of the agreement and we still have not received our negatives and digital photos on CD, and I suspect we never will. We have even tried to order prints through them, but instead have been left with only the proofs for a memory of our special day. They will not return our phone messages or emails, and have even hung up on us when we tried to call. I just want to warn other couples so you don't go through the same ordeal. Please pass the word along and avoid this photographer.

"Terrible experience"
by Elyse (from Toronto, Ontario)
August 2005 - I had a terrible experience with Rebecca. She was great in the lead-up to and on the day of my wedding (June 2004), however, she neglected to give me one of the rolls of photos that she took at my wedding. Via email she assured me that she would send the pictures in the mail immediately, along with the CD of my wedding pictures that she had kept. Nothing arrived, and I contacted her again, at which time she stated that they must have been lost in the mail, and assured me that she would re-mail them. Then she refused to respond to my repeated efforts to contact her, for over a year.

I was also in touch with her sister (who had assisted at my wedding), who was helpful. When I finally found a way to speak directely to Rebecca (over a year after my wedding!), she told me an extremely long story about how the pictures were lost. Rebecca offered to send me the CD, but I insisted on travelling to where she was living (several hours away from my home) to pick up the CD. She left it in her mailbox, along with the photos from the ‘lost’ roll. The photos that 2 days before she had told me she had not seen in almost a year, and were lost, were magically there in her mailbox.

This is actually making a long story short – I attempted many routes to find some effective contact information for her, at a great loss of time and a large degree of stress for me; however, I did ultimately obtain all of my pictures. I don’t know what caused her to act this way, but the whole experience was frustrating to say the least. I believe that there is no possible excuse for neglecting to respond to my attempts at contact; her completely ignoring me was awful, unprofessional and there was no reason for it. I was one of the first weddings that she photographed, and I knew her socially before this occurred.

In addition, when I discovered that she was using my wedding pictures in her website to advertise her business, she ignored my repeated requests for her to cease and desist, and I ultimately had to consult a lawyer and send a registered letter, at which time she finally removed the pictures.
