"Not A happy customer"

by Bob (from Winchester)
March 2007 - Manager:
On Sept 28th last year we made reservations for your hotel for two nites,March 10th to 12,Confirmation # 540314262. Yesterday March 10th we drove fromWinchester and booked in. This afternoon at 13:23 hours by your records a person representing your establishment attended at our room(#110) and advised us that he had discovered we had an animal as he described it and that this was against the hotel rules and requested that we leave or take the dog and leave it in our vehicle. Leaving my daughter's best friend in an enclosed vehicle in todays weather and overnite in cold was not an option. I advised your rep that we would check out and go to another hotel whereupon he rather arrogantly advised us that the charge would be applied for today as we had not checked out prior to noon. As well in his arrogance he further stated that the room would be inspected and further charges could be applied. I requested that he inspect the room which he in true cowardly fashion refused to do but rather had one of the hotel cleaning staff check and confirmed that no damage had been done. I asked your manager why the rule was not indicated on the website or the reservation contract that was e-mailed to us.He stated that it would be considered in the future.
As if being ejected wasn't embarrassing enough we endured the sidelong glances, comments and subdued tittering by your cleaning staff while we packed and removed our luggage to our vehicle.
Several members of your staff were at the East door area last night smoking on break and noticed our dog but said nothing.
Our family travels to Kingston twice each year and spends a weekend in area hotels and this is the first time and assuredly the last time that we will be treated in this fashion in Kingston.
I could have taken a simple request to leave and no charge for the room tonight and no harm done but this is ridiculous. The unwritten rule had already been broken, what would it have hurt to let us stay one more nite and leave Kingston feeling like we had a good weekend. As it is we spent around six hundred tourist dollars in your city and believe me it will be the last and if i can share our misfortunate happening with others rest assured i will.
As soon as i can put together a list i will be writing to the local papers and tourist industry reps sharing our experience with them.
