February 2007 - My boyfriend and I chose Modavie for our Valentine's weekend dinner. We had read that it had the best decor in Montreal and was quite romantic; but Modavie was so much more than that. From the moment you walk in you feel as though you are in a wonderful Parisian wine bar. The entire restaurant takes you to a different time and place. We were seated by a window overlooking the water (a seat I highly recommend); not too close to the wonderful jazz band playing that evening and every evening. We started with a wonderful bottle of Pinot Grigio, which was prompty chilled and poured for us regularly throughout the meal. My boyfriend ordered the Sicilian pasta and I chose the filet mignon medium rare. The pasta was wonderul the olives in the dish really make the sauce pop. And my filet, I've never had anything so perfectly cooked, juicy, and wonderul. We ended dinner with chocolate fondant for dessert. After a few laughs with our waiter we headed back into the cold towards our hotel, completely satisfied. This meal with its perfect portions of both a main course and dessert as well as a bottle of wine and generous tip for the amazing service was less than 150 total. This restaurant was simply one of the best.
