August 2007 - Located at 330 Rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Café Imagination is on the corner of Rue Bleury. A corner restaurant, this tasteful café had plenty of room with quaint seating and large windows that allowed for a bright and spacious atmosphere. I came to Café Imagination for breakfast and found one of the best petit dejeuners in the area coupled with friendly service. I enjoyed it so much I returned the next day. Even the chef remembered me and greeted me as I entered.
In the morning, a sign rests up against the door with a selection of breakfast items that are not written inside on the boards. Inside, if you are eating to stay, there is a menu that you will be provided with. I was drawn to a menu item called the Panini du matin. It consisted of a Panini stuffed with egg, tomato, maybe bacon and cheese. It was then grilled. It took a few minutes to prepare and was definitely not the thing to get if you needed to rush out the door. As far as I can tell, things are prepared in order, so if there are a few people seated who have ordered breakfast, their food will be prepared while you wait for yours. Not really an ideal system but probably fair. But it was well-worth the wait. The Panini was filling and delicious. I was happy waiting if the product turns out this tasty. It was evidently made with care and not slapped together in a formulaic Tim Horton’s kind of way.
I had a double latte. It was good, rich and fresh. I didn’t care for the flimsy take-away cup however (presentation means a lot). Other good things about this café are that it had free wireless Internet and plenty of papers to read in French or English. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. This very filling breakfast cost me just over $5.
