January 2008 - Avocado Fresh Mexican Grill just recently opened on the east end of 8th St. in Saskatoon. The place looks great!! The food is very good—relatively inexpensive, good-sized portions, nice selection on the menu—but if you’re looking for a classic Mexican meal there are better alternatives in the city. I had a Famoso Bean Burrito and it was excellent, but you can definitely find more authentic Mexican food for more authentic Mexican prices. Furthermore, the Avocado’s story is a bit cheesy—two Canadian Amigos were traveling in Mexico and discovered food they would never forget. The Saskatoon chain is definitely better than others that I’ve been too—it’s classy rather than tacky, suitable for a quiet dinner or a drink at the bar. Despite the lack of authenticity, the service and food was excellent, and the Churros on the dessert menu will certainly be taking me back there again soon.
