June 2006 - 39 pounds, two people, centre of London and.... enough room to swing three cats!
Travelodges are never that exciting, even less so in Britain where many hotel rooms are known to be barely big enough to swing a cat but cost you at least 100 pounds for the privilege...and that is in the twee countryside, not in the centre of London.
Therefore, if you missed the boat on all the pretty B&B's recommended by Rick Steves and want to stay somewhere central, I highly recommend the Travelodge at Covent Garden . You can't beat the location - easy walking distance from the Covent Garden market itself and the tube station (and this facility is actually one of the chain's better/quieter/cleaner ones in London) - and the room/lobby was pleasant, clean and almost spacious.
Furthermore, if you're lucky, the chain often offers online specials and you can get even one of the central locations for a bargain. I paid 39 pounds (for two people) for a Friday night room by booking and paying online. Never thought I'd be recommending a Travelodge but there you go.
