North Beach Neighborhood Reviews

"Beautiful"
by Kelsey (from Calgary) November 2007 - I recently visited San Francisco and spent most of my time just walking the city. North Beach is a predominantly Italian area and is home to a few amazing churches. It is extremely clean. There are tonnes of little boutiques lining the streets to explore not to mention lots of Italian eateries to choose from. It is a great place to spend an afternoon people watching while sipping an cafe au lait.

"San Fran's coolest neighborhood"
by Kathy (from Helena, Montana) April 2007 - Forget Fisherman's Wharf, even forget Chinatown. The North Beach district of San Francisco IS the city showing its best. And don't let the name fool you - where images of beaches and a surfey, hippy atmosphere might come to mind, North Beach is actually the city's Italian-American district - filled with sidewalk cafes, small leafy parks, attractive boutiques and narrow, hilly, tree-lined streets adorned with charming houses. The shops are filled with locals and it's a great place to people watch. While North Beach should be a must for a first time visit to San Fran, this is an area I would come back to over and over again. Ironically, it is sandwiched between Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf so a walking tour from one to the other of these more famous areas will mean a trip right through this cool neighborhood!
