"Worth the climb!"
by Kathy (from Helena, Montana)
April 2007 - Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill is one of the city's most prominent landmarks for a reason - it stands above much of the downtown area and, once visited, offers amazing views of the whole bay area. You can reach the tower either by car or by climbing up Telegraph Hill via a set of stairs. If you're able, I recommend the latter. We did a self-guided walking tour though Chinatown and the North Beach district which more or less ended at the tower and walking the residential streets up to the hill allowed us to see the quieter and more charming side of San Fran. The tree-lined streets and elegant houses were a far cry from the crowded touristy boardwalks and the climb up to the tower through leafy Pioneer Park was scenic and peaceful. Followed by the views from the tower itself, this is a worthy excusion!
