| "Great coffee shop in North Beach" |
|
|
by Cleo (from Calgary) April 2007 - While doing a bit of a walking tour of Chinatown and the North Beach area (Italian-American quarter) of San Francisco, we stopped in at this coffee shop for cappuccinos. What a great stop it was - the decor had an Italian / beatnik theme and some of the walls are adorned with old black and white photos of musicians who played at the cafe, many of them recognizable greats of the time. San Francisco can be overrun with visitors and sometimes it is difficult to get off the tourist path, even at restaurants and cafes, but this was not the case with Caffe Trieste. Most of the customers who came through the door seemed to be locals from the Italian-American community, many of them chatting with the owner or each other and the place just exuded a low-key, friendly attitude - tattered sofas, mismatched but nifty chairs, mosaic tiled tables - a bit like the old worn out sweater that is still our favourite.
