| "Best Meal I've Ever Had" |

June 2005 - I've eaten at hundreds if not thousands of restaurants throughout the world, and this is one out of only a handful I'd give a perfect 10/10 score. Maybe it was just luck (over the years, I'm sure people have had bad experiences here) but absolutely everything fell into place the night my wife and I capriciously chose this restaurant at which to dine during our visit to San Francisco.
We arrived sans reservation and early, just after six o'clock, and the restaurant was already busy. So busy in fact that we had to sit at the bar. Normally, this would be a turn-off, but not here; it only added to the casual and exciting ambience.
We ordered several dishes including the Korean Charbroiled Pork, Thai Rice Noodles with Shrimp and Szechuan Green Beans. All were prepared fresh and with the perfect combination of spices and sauces. The green beans, which were blanched and stir fried at their own station, were out of this world. Just the right tenderness, color and garlic flavor, I would have been more than satisfied had I only ordered this single dish.
Contrary to what you may be thinking, I'm in no way affiliated with this restaurant or with anyone who has ever worked here. And to be honest, if I return to San Francisco someday, I probably won't go back to Betelnut. Why risk spoiling the perfect meal?
