by David (from Orleans) January 2008 - We stayed at this Best Western Airpark (NOT Best Western Airport Plaza) in January 2008 as our last stop before an early-morning flight back to Canada. We chose it, first, for being only two miles from LAX airport with free shuttle service and also because it showed up as a good points deal for our Aeroplan account. We were dropped at the airport by bus at the end of our vacation but we were not flying until the next morning. We called the hotel from a pay phone. The clerk told us where to wait for the driver who would only take about 10-15 minutes to get there. When we found the spot, the Best Western van was already there. We piled in and, as we chatted to the driver, we discovered we were in the Airport Plaza hotel van -- and not the Airpark van. He kindly dropped us at the door anyway -- turns out it was on his way. Just off the San Diego freeway and one of three Best Westerns on that strip. We told the clerk their driver might be waiting in vain but there were other passengers waiting, apparently, so not a wasted trip. The hotel was a good bargain hotel, clean and quiet if you don't need fancy.
We had a restful stay and it was close enough to allow a decent sleep before heading back to LAX on the free shuttle again at 5:30 a.m. Just tell the clerk when you need to leave any time of day. Only ten minutes travel time to get there. There was a free continental breakfast available even at 5:30. The muffins and cream cheese were separately wrapped so we just grabbed a couple for the plane. We didn't use the services but there are connections on offer for rental cars and for tours to local attractions like Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood, Knott's Berry Farm, San Diego Zoo, et cetera.
The rooms were clean and usual mid-price rooms with enough room to walk around -- TV, phone, clock-radio, small fridge, and double queen beds. An outdoor swimming pool and spa on site but again, we were not there long enough to check it out. Staff were friendly and helpful. No restaurant on site but lots nearby.
Sorry, you will have to check on prices -- we didn't put our hand in our pockets even for taxes or surcharges. Just 8000 Aeroplan points and well worth it.
