| "Gigantic granite cliffs" |
by Bev (from Calgary) August 2007 - Driving into Yosemite is a truly memorable experience. The view of El Capitan - the famed rock face that is so tall you get a crick in your neck looking up at it - is absolutely stunning and watching people climb the sheer wall is a humbling experience. We took our tent and stayed at a very full campground (it was peak season) and then spent half the night awake naively and needlessly worrying about bears. A hike to see Bridal-veil falls was a good way to see a little of the park, although I think the falls would have been more impressive in spring. Half dome, another granite rock face that takes your breath away, is an absolute must see. Finally we drove to the Tuolumne Meadows area to see alpine flowers and the mountain landscape. This is a national park where a couple of days is just simply not enough!
