| "Amazing exhibitions" |
by Elizabeth (from Redlands, CA) January 2008 - This is a fantastic museum! I was awed by the main floor where a mammoth and mastodon stand side by side where they can be compared. The mastodon, nicknamed Max, is the Western Center's signature artifact, and is the largest mastodon ever unearthed in the Western United States. It seemed like every question I could come up with was answered on the display.
Moreover, I brought my four-year-old with me and there was plenty for him to do. They provided him with air dry clay that he pressed into a mold to make his own fossil. He carried it home like a treasured toy! He loved the movie and was talking about it for weeks afterward. The theater, which surrounds you by at least 180 degrees, offers boulders instead of chairs, and leaves you feeling immersed in the past. When the mammoth comes out, the room shakes. It was incredible! I just can't say enough good things about it.
