"Stay Away!!!"

by John (from 123 drive)
June 2007 - Upon entering the room with my wife we discovered an odor reminiscent of old cream cheese and sweaty feet. My wife and I opened the windows, turned on the AC, and took a walk to the hotel dock. When we came back to our room five minutes later. The windows were closed and the AC was turned down. "Someone" with a key to the room had closed the windows and turned down the AC.

Later that night my wife and I went to join friends for dinner. Suspecting that the "Intruder" would come back in our room-I took several digital pics of my suitcase closed.

I was furious! The next morning I told the manager that I thought someone had broke into my room, never placing blame on anyone, but reminding him of how violated I felt. We left for Ferndale Resort that morning.

Bottom line... this hotel is seedy, overpriced, and in a bad part of town.

"Disappointed"

May 2007 - No blowdryer or iron for the expensive price. Pool is dirty and not heated for the expensive price. Manager said we were upgraded but I reserved a Queen bed non smoking room and was put in a smoking room with two double beds. There were cigarette burn marks on the side of the tub. Fishing pier at end of parking lot was good.

"Completely Shabby!"

April 2007 - I was asked to write a review of the Clearlake Highlands Inn. Here it is in a few words: Not a good value. The price for a SAT night with tax was 164 dollars. Most hotels, including the Highlands were sold out because of weekend events in the Clearlake area, even though it poured rain the whole weekend. Dreadful as it was, my room had been booked in advance and the Highlands was sold out. San Fran was a 2 and a half hours drive, and it was 10 pm and pouring rain when I arrived. The hotel office had closed at 9pm, contrary to what was advertised on the web site, so I woke up the manager to get a key.The room had a very smoked -in smell when the door was opened. There were 2 very worn and and sagging mattresses, on queen beds with threadbare comforters complete with cigarette burns. I decided to sleep in my clothes. Because of the very saggy bed and the smell in the room, I did not get a very good rest. I could not get the TV remote to work so I read a book. The room was complete with worn carpeting, names carved into the doors, an electric furnace that worked but was nearly as loud as a 747 on takeoff, and the final touch, a dirty coffee maker complete with used coffee grounds, no fresh ones. This in the morning I looked at the hotel grounds. There was a swimming pool half full of green water, and on the shore of the lake where the hotel pier was, there was a large pile of washed up garbage and debris with dead smelly fish mixed in.
