| "Great for a full-on breakfast" |

March 2007 - We stopped at Donner Lake Kitchen for breakfast on the way to Sugar Bowl ski area from Truckee along the Donner Pass Road. It is the kind of place the locals go to and the tourists don’t always know about. You might drive past because it doesn’t look anything special from the outside but, it is well worth the stop. With the traditional style formica bar with spinning chrome and red stools and a great round table for us to sit at we loved the 'local diner' atmosphere. I ordered the pancakes and sausage and the three huge pancakes that arrived in front of me were excellent. I love pancakes anytime and the maple syrup they provided made them delicious. The free refill coffees also went down pretty well. We were a group of four adults and two children under six. The girl who served us was great with the children and immediately provided a high chair for the two year old as well as books and coloring crayons for both of the girls. She fully accommodated our requests for straws, juice without ‘bits’ and more pages for drawing. I would fully recommend a visit to the Donner Lake Kitchen.

| "No frills diner" |

January 2007 - On a ski trip to Tahoe, this unassuming little diner was recommended to us by a local as a good place to have breakfast so we gave it a try. It is very much a locals kind of place without any frills - old-style diner counter, plastic glasses, a medley of coffee cups like you find in your grandma's kitchen and a clientele of old-timers sitting around shooting the bull. If you want a sparkling clean and contemporary cafe with inspiring and gourmet dishes - stay away, this is definitely not the place. But if you want a motley mix of decor and atmosphere, coupled with a menu of good home-style comfort food, give the Donner Lake Kitchen a try!
