March 2008 - Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café is located in the Tomorrowland section of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Much more than a café, it is actually a massive cafeteria style eating establishment. There are three or four different sections that serve different styles of fast food. There are a vast array of burgers, sandwiches, and salads from which to choose. A pleasant surprise is the ability to substitute French fries for such things as small side salads or fresh fruit. The lines from which to order food are often long and the dining area is extremely noisy. The restaurant is always filled with families and the kids, while not necessarily rowdy, are very loud. I chose the Pork Sandwich with grapes and my partner chose a standard hamburger with fries. Both items remained unremarkable until we reached the massive condiment cart. It seemed as if everything you might ever want to adorn your sandwich with was available. Everything from ketchup and mustard to onions, fried mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, et cetera was available in unlimited supply. Each meal without a beverage is about $10 after tax. Cosmic Ray’s is not a relaxing place to eat but the condiment bar makes for a fun lunch or late-night snack.
