December 2007 - The King and I Thai Cuisine is located in the Waipouli Plaza on the Kuhio Highway. When we first arrived there were not many patrons so we were a bit hesitant to dine here. But, within fifteen minutes or so the place filled right up and it got super busy.
Our family ordered the dinner for five. I would recommend this for a group who wants to try new foods. It contains an assortment of Thai appetizers, vegetables, meat and seafood dishes, rice and an individual dessert for each person. My favorite dish was the yellow curry chicken and I did not enjoy the beef and broccoli dish. (Don’t get me wrong, I usually love beef and broccoli, but the sauce used in this dish was very odd and I could not stomach it).
Though the service was friendly there were not enough servers and I almost felt rushed while I ate. Additionally, it took the server a very long time to clear our dirty dishes after we were done eating. After what seemed like forever we became impatient and had to stack the dishes to one side of the table (something I don’t think you should have to do at a restaurant).
The cost of the meal was average and the food quality was average-to-good. I have definitely had better Thai food, but it was still well worth dining at. The restaurant’s decor was typical of most Thai restaurants.
