January 2008 - This restaurant was a lucky find. My family and I were driving through Lihu’e looking for a place to eat when we caught a glimpse of a big sign that said Duke’s. Having no idea what this place would be like we parked the car and checked it out. Much to our liking the casual restaurant was located beach side at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club.
The most impressive aspect of this restaurant was its fabulous ambiance. The restaurant was decorated in a sophisticated tropical way and opened up to the outdoors. There were landscaped gardens filled with tropical vegetation and clear ponds filled with colorful fish. We chose to sit on the restaurant’s outer part where we could enjoy watching the waves of the beach.
The food at the restaurant was good for a lunch meal. We ordered an appetizer of hot wings, which we ate rather quickly. I then ordered the blue cheese hamburger. It was tasty. Though, it did not come with a side so you have to order that separately. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the high food prices that are typical of Hawaii.
If you are looking for a lunch place while visiting Lihu’e this is defiantly a place to check out! Enjoy a day at the beach, try surfing or kayaking, explore the Marriott Resort and then follow up with a good lunch and perhaps a cold tropical drink at Duke’s Barefoot Bar.
