by Anne (from Calgary) May 2009 - The Atwood Café is a favorite Chicago restaurant of ours. It’s in a great location - near shopping, the Art Institute and the Theater District. Though it’s situated in the beautifully restored Art Deco Burnham Hotel – this is no add-on “hotel restaurant”. The décor charms big time with hugely high ceilings, warm, rich colors and fun touches. We’re always most amazed by the food, which makes use of organic and local farm produce. Everything served comes with some creative touch and flavor – even humble fish and chips. Surely the chef has more than a heaping plateful of imagination as well as a dash of humor – I’m thinking of the graham cracker fried calamari or the crispy bershire pork belly with warm rhubarb-ginger compote. We always get the brown sugar cheesecake with butterscotch sauce – it’s awesome, even if you’re not a cheesecake fan. We were treated well by the wait staff, including our accompanying child – there’s even a seasonal kid’s menu. The Atwood Café is open for breakfast, lunch, tea or dinner.
