April 2008 - We chose to visit on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was not crowded. Based on experiences at other Joe's locations, we anticipated a nice, relaxing evening in a lively place with good food. Unfortunately, the Indianapolis Joe's experience was not up to the task.
Lively is one thing--sound which drowns out any potential conversation is quite another. The ambience was terrible. The music was unbearably loud and we were told that the sound is computerized and there was no way to manually decrease the volume. It likely wouldn’t have been as noticeable if there had been more people in the restaurant.
The service was very slow despite the lack of a serious diner turnout. The food was mediocre at best. We sampled the shrimp, but found it maddeningly tough and bland. Our accompaniments were acceptable and Joe's does offer a decent variety of menu items and sides from which to choose.
The prices would probably be considered average for the Indy area so we don't feel completely taken, but it's not a location we'd visit again.
