October 2007 - We travel more than the average person and can't recommend Red Roof Inn more highly for the budget-minded person who still wants a clean, comfortable room.
Our recent visit to the Louisville East location confirmed our opinion yet again. Red Roof has made a concerted effort to remodel and update many of its rooms across the chain and this one appeared to be one which had been upgraded recently.
We checked in late on a Monday afternoon and were met by a friendly desk clerk who answered what few questions we posed. Our first floor room was accessed by an ISB-type key. We had upgraded to a business size room which, amazingly for less than $50, included a small fridge, microwave and large L-shaped desk. We made use of all three. We were able to park literally five feet from our door.
The TV worked fine, which is sometimes unusual for some hotel chains, and offered a large number of channels. The set was on a swivel, making it accessible from both the desk and sleeping area.
The bathroom had a classy, laminate type flooring installed and the shower was clean and nice. The carpeting was typical of a lower budget hotel chain--nothing to write home about, but one can understand. It was generally clean.
The location is close to several other hotel chains and also to a busy thoroughfare which offers multiple dining and shopping options.
Checkout was a breeze. I can't think of anything negative to say about this hotel or its location other than it would be nice if it offered free wireless internet instead of the pay service through T-Mobile ($9.95 per day). I'd highly recommend joining Red Roof's frequent guest program, which offers free stays for a relatively short number of visits and some nice perks. Another solid effort from Red Roof!
