September 2007 - Smokey Bones recently went through a restructuring which meant some of the group's restaurants closed. Luckily, nothing seems to have changed at the restaurants that remain open, including the suburban Cincinnati location on Mall Road in Florence, KY.
Smokey Bones is a barbeque restaurant, which specializes in slow-cooked meats such as pulled pork, turkey, beef brisket and smoked sausage. However, the menu is hardly limited. One can order a variety of items, but the warm atmosphere and wonderful smell of barbeque wafting about makes it difficult to select anything else!
We chose a 'sampler' platter with turkey, pulled pork and brisket. The platter was reasonably priced at $14.99 and included two sides. We added a third--completing our meal with some excellent mashed potatoes, a baked potato and cole slaw. A slice of garlic bread came with the meal. It was enough for two reasonably hungry people to split. The meats were tender and had a nice flavor. We've also tried the chicken flatbread sandwich in the past, which was also delicious and very reasonably priced. One can order virtually any sandwich and side item with drink and escape for under $15 including a tip.
Service was attentive and friendly. Smokey Bones is part sports bar as well, and a crowd often shows up for big events including NFL games on Sundays, with TVs visible throughout the entire restaurant.
We'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good barbeque in a relaxing, friendly atmosphere.
