by Patricia A. (from Lake in the Hills,IL) July 2007 - Several days after booking the reservation online I received a telephone call from a hotel employee telling me that the room I booked was not available and the room type would have to be changed; this was not a problem for us and I readily agreed to the change. I had booked the room one month in advance and it did seem strange that the hotel made this request. The day before departure I checked my bank statement and found that the hotel had doubled charged for the room. I called the hotel and requested a credit (on the accounting managers voice mail) for the second charge they had incorrectly placed on my account. The call went unanswered. Upon arrival I requested the correction be made to my account, the clerk asked from my bank statement; told her that I did not make a practice of traveling with my bank statements and that the hotel had all of the records. This was the beginning of six conversations with the mangement of the hotel; going on line and getting a copy of my bank statement, giving them my credit card number and having to wait until the day of departure to get a credit statement. As of yesterday the credit had not appeared on the bank statment in spite of the assurance that as soon as I checked out the credit would automatically be sent to my bank. One of the days we spent the entire morning dealing with the hotel over this situation. In addition to this the hotel debited my card $100.00 twice to cover charges to the room, which there none; this has not been credited back. I find $100.00 to be excessive and to do it twice when no charges had been made to be highly irregular. For all of this I did receive an apology and a sorry explanation that it was a "stupid mistake."
The claim that this is a resort hotel stretches the definition of "resort", the only facilities where a small indoor pool and a massage/spa service. The resort service available was a bingo parlor and fishing party boats; each of which supplied a host of participants who parties until 1AM to 2AM within earshot of our room; we finally had to request being moved to the other side of the building.
Housekeeping was of low standards; not carefully done. The breakfast area was very limited; on the first day they served yogurt that was three days out of date; on the following days no yogurt was available.
Some of the front desk staff was eager to help but untrained in proper procedures and little training in the hospitality services.
Upon arrival one light was not working in the bathroom; reported this and it was fixed the next day. Sink and tub trained very slow.
To state the obvious I will not return nor recommend this hotel to anyone.
