| "Ramsey Still Imaging/Nice Surprise" |
by Angie (from Minneapolis) June 2007 - *One does not need to be well-known or have an “image” to be a good photographer. To be a good photographer one must have passion for what they do and it should show in every facet of their work. In Art Ramsey and Ramsey Still Imaging, this is what my husband and I found.
Searching for a wedding photographer about six months before the big date was quite the time – we found that photographers were already booked on our date or found great disappointment in what was being offered by photographers who seemed to have an image to uphold. Many did not place basic information on their websites such as cost and availability, forcing us to go out of our way to get this information. Many photographers had very limited samples of their work on their websites, and it also seemed standard for most photographers to cover only 7-8 hours of a wedding day, even though anyone who has been to a wedding knows it’s an all-day photogenic affair.
Most frustrating to us was the fact that very few photographers offered wedding photos on CD with copyright release. To us, offering copyright release meant that a photographer recognized that he took the picture but that it was our day and our image to do with as we wished. And since my husband and I weren’t looking for printed photos and albums from a photographer but were looking to have our memories preserved digitally, this option was very important to us.
My husband found www.ramseystillimaging.com and not only were we pleased with Art’s previous work and how well his site was laid out but we were thrilled to know that we would be getting all of our photos on CD and copyright release. We chose the “BUILD YOUR OWN PACKAGE” with videography coverage. On our wedding day, Art and his son Arthur didn’t arrive an hour before our ceremony to take pictures – their day began at 8am when they arrived at the bed and breakfast I was staying at in Stillwater . Right away I found that Art was a lot of fun – he was very outgoing and likeable and took pictures of everything and everyone in my room, and not only got pictures of my bridesmaids and me getting ready but was also able to take pictures of my husband and best man getting ready in their room.
A thunderstorm had rolled through the Twin Cities very early on the morning of our wedding and I’ll never forget how mad I was, since we were having an outdoor ceremony at Albertson’s Farm. When I stepped outside to see overcast skies lingering Art pacified me, telling me that full sunlight wasn’t best for good photos anyway. And what happened shortly thereafter but the sun came out! We ended up having a beautiful wedding day – hot, but not a cloud in the sky.
Throughout the day, Art and Arthur stayed with us everywhere we went like we were movie stars and they our paparazzi, preserving everything we did not only “on film” but with video as well (Arthur behind the video camera). Art never once directed us or our families like we were at a photo shoot, and for this I will always be grateful, as it was the last thing we wanted or needed on our big day. Instead, things were very “casual” and fun – Art always had ideas for pictures and poses but always indulged our suggestions and really made it feel like we were in control of what we were going to get. From preparations beginning at 8am to the ceremony at 2pm, a reception at 5pm and bouquet and garter toss around 8pm, Art and his son covered it all. Though my husband and I were away on our honeymoon when we got an email from Art that our pictures were online for us to view, the resort at which we were staying had Internet access so we were able to preview our pictures online - all 706 of them! We were very pleased with this - it had been less than a week since the wedding and everyone could already see our photos.
From a shot of the bridal party walking in front of the Stillwater lift bridge being lowered and a black and white picture of the bridal party in a tunnel near the river with bouquets and boutonničres in color, to a picture of my husband and me peeking around a tree at each other at the golf course, infrared shots of our ceremony and wide angle shots of my dress on the bed in my room, the photos were way beyond any expectations we had harbored. Needless to say, we loved with what we saw and we were highly impressed not only with how Art’s expertise and imagination showed in his work but with the volume of photos we received.
When we picked up our photos, everything was organized in a leather three ring, our CDs and DVD contained in plastic cases and held in plastic sleeves. Every picture had even been printed as a thumbnail image on proof pages and placed in plastic sleeves for us. This presentation was much more than I know other couples received from their photographers, couples whose weddings took place a year ago yet still haven’t received all of their photos.
Selecting a wedding photographer is tough – you know you need one, but how do you know that the money spend will be worth it? How can you trust that a stranger will preserve your special day the way you want it done? Well, judging by the fact that I still look at our wedding photos every day (thanks in part to having many our wedding pictures on my PC at work) and by how many compliments we have received on our photos from everyone who has seen them or received them as gifts, I would say with certainty that my husband and I made the right choice.
Some couples try to find the least expensive photographer for their day to save money, whereas I have always been a firm believer in the saying, “you get what you pay for.” The way I saw it was that you only had one wedding day and one chance for your photographer to get it right and preserve your special day forever, so what you put in on a good photographer you got back many times more.
Memories fade, but photos will last a lifetime. If you want quality work and photos that you will love today, tomorrow and even in fifty years, choose Ramsey Still Imaging.
