December 2007 - The new Olive Garden restaurant was a godsend to Springfield, Ohio, which had a need for a quality Italian eatery near the city’s most popular shopping area.
Located on Bechtle Avenue, the restaurant has proven popular with locals impressed with the ambiance and service. We did experience a wait of about 20 minutes.
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, ordering off of the reasonably priced lunch menu. One of the more attractive features is Olive Garden’s all-you-can-eat salad and breadsticks that is offered to every diner, regardless of menu choice. It’s easy to fill up before your meal, so be careful! The salad is fresh, the breadsticks warm and also bakery-fresh in quality.
The lunch menu is very reasonably priced, considering what a patron receives. We ordered Ravioli Portabella, a dish we’re familiar with and have enjoyed before. Our very friendly waitress delivered the dish in near-record time following our “warm up” but unfortunately it was not as hot as it should have been. When we brought it to her attention, instead of simply warming it up, she brought an entirely new entrée—and it was a dinner portion! A nice, unexpected bonus and this time it was piping hot and delicious as usual. Our soft drinks were re-filled without our even having to ask.
The meal was a pleasant experience and we enjoyed seeing the kitchen located toward the front of the restaurant. The smell emanating from that area was enticing and aided anticipation of what was a very satisfying experience. We’d recommend a visit if you’re in the area.
