| "Seeing and tasting is believing" |

by Sally (from Fernie, BC) December 2007 - Any and everywhere in Montana feels big and surprising, but none more so than the bar and restaurant that is The Grand. This Historic Inn and hotel truly has to be experienced to be believed partly for its relatively remote location, not that Big Timber isn’t a worthy small town host for this upscale dining experience. From the moment you walk into the restaurant you feel a welcoming atmosphere. The antique wood dining tables give the room an air of history and the menu whether a la carte or not just oozes quality dining.
Lamb is often my meat of choice in formal dining situations and I could not resist the rack on offer here. It had an additional bonus because it involved a professional carving at the table by our attentive waitress and from one succulent bite to the next I was in food heaven. With its extensive wine and whiskey list it is the kind of place that you can rub shoulders with Robert Redford, Michael Keaton and other famous local ranch owners yet not even know it.

by Storm (from Calgary) August 2007 - Anyone visiting Big Timber, Montana should definitely stop for a meal at the Grand, a large historic hotel on the main street. If you're in the mood for a nice meal and a bottle of wine, the hotel's handsome dining room and equally appealing menu never fail to surprise visitors and if something more casual is called for, the attached, western-style bar (with a traditional bar, high-backed booths and checkered tables) fits the bill. Great food (you can order from the formal or bar menu in either room) means that both rooms are always busy and, once experienced, it is easy to see why the place is as popular with locals as it is with the many summer and fall tourists. While the menu features a selection of vegetarian and seafood dishes, the restaurant is particularly known for its steaks (the Tenderloin Gorgonzola is dreamy), and prime rib (the best I've had).
