August 2008 - My husband and I were in Kalispell for the first time and some locals recommended we try Moose's for a fun, casual place with tasty beer. They were definitely right - it is all of those things.
We were there on the Sunday night of the long weekend and it was completely packed. We had to circle the place several times to find a table, or even a free chair.
Once seated, we waited patiently for a server. After a few minutes, it became clear that was not going to work. Beer has to be ordered from the bar and food has to be ordered from a window at the back of the restaurant and paid for immediately. Apparently this is a common set-up in the area, but it was new to us. I find it rather frustrating, especially when you are hungry. But frosty glasses of Blue Moon and Alaskan Amber for $2 helped forget this quite quickly.
The pizza was fantastic! Freshly made to order and a perfect balance of crust, sauce, toppings and cheese - not to thick or too thin. We had a 15 inch "Combo pizza" (Pepperoni, Sausage, Green Pepper, Onions, Mushrooms, Black Olives) with fresh tomato as an extra topping. It was much more food than we expected and was enough for lunch for 2 the next day and a bit of breakfast too!
The only thing I really didn't like about the place was the stuffed animal heads on the wall. I'm a meat eater and have no illusions about where my food comes from. However, one of the heads is actually rotting/falling apart. Gross. And not pleasant to look at while eating.
