April 2008 - We stopped by the Carnegie Deli in the Mirage in the hopes that we could grab a quick and cheap lunch before heading down to the pool for the afternoon. Cheap it was not, but when we saw how large the sandwich was, we were feeling a bit better about the $14 price attached to it. We ordered a warm pastrami on rye sandwich and a cranberry juice (overpriced at $4) to go. The service at the take-out counter was very friendly, quick and efficient. The restaurant itself was very casual and relaxed and reminded me of a diner.
We brought our lunch to our room and I'm glad we did; eating that behemoth in public might have been embarrassing! The meat was piled on very high and we had to peel off a few inches before we could even begin to think about tackling it! The sandwich came with a really yummy spicy mustard and kosher pickles on the side (very mild dill flavor). The meat was very tasty and the bread was perfect. The sandwich would have fed a third person easily and we ended up having to throw the extra meat out.
If smoked meat sandwiches are your thing, bring a friend (or two) to Carnegie Deli and enjoy!
