September 2007 - On a recent trip to New Mexico, we stopped at a camp spot in Raton New Mexico, just over the border from Colorado. The helpful staff recommended Pappas for a terrific meal stop. As we arrived at the restaurant, it was hard not to notice the place needed some TLC as far as looks go. It was in need some paint and cosmetic touches. We went in anyway after getting the high recommendation. Walking through the doors was a huge and wonderful surprise. In the front there is a sweets and souvenir shop and then you walk into a large dining room that was decorated early 1900’s. It was very rich in decor. The staff was very personable and so helpful with the extensive wine list and the varied menu. We opted for the steak dinner and it was done to perfection and the fresh vegetables were excellent. Their specialty was sweet potato fries, which received high marks from my dining partner.
We will certainly return to this restaurant on any future trips to the area.
