September 2007 - With the dollar at par, any visit to the States should include some more affordable dining. At this Ponderosa buffet restaurant in small-town upstate New York, we chose the safe and simple chicken monterey dinner and buffet. We actually go for the buffet but the chicken and the loaded baked potato are worth the extra change. Interestingly, neither one of us paints our chicken with the monterey sauce which comes on the side.
I enjoy the Ponderosa salad bar more than any other salad bar. I’m a thousand-islands-dressing guy and there are few places in Canada which still include my dressing at the salad bar.
Any Ponderosa dinner can now be ordered without buffet. I’m tempted by the new tilapia dinner which I will try next visit, if it’s still on the menu.
This restaurant is not a clean place to dine. This is likely due to high traffic which allows little time for cleaning between seatings. In particular, the washrooms are not clean and these areas should be better presented. It’s a not-so-clean buffet house but still leave a tip, please.
